EHR Reimbursement Assured!
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will soon offer guidelines for how hospitals and group practices can demonstrate "meaningful use" of EHR systems to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid financial incentives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Medicare must reimburse $44,000 to $63,000 to any provider that applies and meets the "meaningful use" requirement of a certified EHR system.Bankers receive a bailout; providers receive an incentive. This appears to be a deal you cannot refuse.
Most EHR systems vendors are poised to deliver products that will assist practices with meeting meaningful use requirements. But most small and medium-sized practices have no plans to change their internal practice processes. Let's speculate that these practices accept change. They will have to wait in line to buy and implement a certified EHR system.
Certified EHR Technology: Certified EHR technology means a qualified electronic health record that is certified as meeting standards as determined by the Secretary of HHS, such as an ambulatory electronic health record for office-based physicians or an inpatient hospital electronic health record for hospitals.
The process of selecting and implementing an EHR system is far more frustrating than the process of acquiring a regulated medical device.Based on the Government's goal of pervasive implementation of EHR systems, the successful provider reward is:
Generous incentive money for you and your practice
Streamlining your clinical workflow
Optimizing the delivery of care
Delivering better outcomes to your patient base.
